Telus publishes more than one rate-change FAQ for SmartHome Security, which tells you how often this comes up. We are not going to quote you a number we cannot verify — read your own bill, then put it beside ours. Every price we charge is on this website.
A lot of Ottawa accounts did not start there. Telus has been buying alarm companies for years — it took roughly 39,000 western AlarmForce customers from Bell in January 2018, bought Price’s Alarms in 2020, and absorbed Vivint’s Canadian customers. If your bill changed name once or twice and the rate crept up each time, that is why.
Worth saying plainly: we are not owned by anybody. Accurate Security is a division of Home Service Group Inc., one office at 36 Capital Drive in Nepean, since 1999. There is nobody above us to sell your account to.
Ask, in writing: what term am I on, when does it end, what does cancelling cost, and do I own the equipment?
That last one matters more than people expect, and Telus keeps a separate support article on equipment ownership. Get the answer in writing. If it says the panel is leased or remains theirs, that changes what a move looks like — not whether you can move, but what goes on the wall afterwards.
Here: you buy the equipment and own it from day one. We will show you the line item before you order it. The prices are on the front page.
Ask: is it a Telus-branded all-in-one, or a DSC or Honeywell?
Usually not, and we would rather be straight about it. The panels Telus and Vivint install are generally proprietary — locked to that platform, no use to another monitoring company. A DSC or Honeywell behind a Telus sticker is a different story and often stays.
Either way the wiring survives, and so do hardwired door contacts. It is a panel swap rather than a rewire, and the existing holes and cable are reused.
One photo settles it. Send us a picture of the panel and one of the keypad and we will tell you which you have, before you cancel anything. The panels we can take over.
Then tell us the end date, and we will do the arithmetic with you rather than at you. If paying out the remainder costs more than the saving, we will tell you to wait, and we will put the date in the diary and call you then. That is not a sales technique, it is just the right answer most of the time.
Put your bill beside ours and do the math — it takes about twenty seconds and it works out the whole cost, not just the monthly.
Monitoring by Lanvac, a ULC-listed station, the same 24/7 police, fire and medical dispatch, and the Alarm.com app — which is the same app a great many national brands put their own logo on. No contract: month to month, thirty days’ notice.
And the part you cannot get from a national brand: a real door at 36 Capital Drive in Nepean that you can walk into on a Tuesday with a photo of your keypad and no appointment.
We have deliberately published no Telus price figures on this page. Telus maintains several rate-change and billing-update FAQs for SmartHome Security, but the amounts and effective dates are on pages we cannot verify from the outside, and we are not going to repeat a competitor’s number as though we had checked it. Your own bill is the reliable source. The acquisition dates above are from contemporaneous news reports. Accurate Security is not affiliated with Telus, AlarmForce, Vivint or Price’s Alarms; the names are used to describe whose service a reader already has.
We call you back within the next business day with a written quote — no pressure, and nothing is ordered until you say so.
